Free Community Screening: Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down

Gabby with SNL!

October 18 saw a free reception and community screening of the film “Gabby Giffords: Won’t Back Down,”  hosted by Survivors Empowered and GIFFORDS. The screening filled 2 theaters and was followed by a very positive Q&A session, with Sandy and Lonnie Phillips, founders of Survivors Empowered.

From the directors of “RBG,” this powerful documentary provides a behind-the-scenes look at Gabby’s incredible career, recovery, and advocacy work.

The film is available for screening by groups. You can inquire here.

Lone Tree art

How wonderful it was to be surrounded by friends, music, art… and positive action to stop the killing, maiming and pain. We screened the powerful short movie, by Stephen Dexter, American Morning.  You can view the movie, online, by clicking here. We also held a silent auction of art, donated by supporters of Survivors Empowered.

If you missed the chance to be there in person, we will have some of the beautiful art displayed online.

UVALDE, TEXAS • MAY 27 – JUNE 7

Empty Uvalde Chair

We were Heartbroken… and we Turned West

Here is our statement about the tragedy: The horrifying gunshot deaths of 19 children and three adults at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas has left us, and so many other survivors of gun violence, reeling with grief and flooded with pain as we relive the worst days of our lives. Lonnie and I are altering our Honor With Action Tour to travel to Uvalde to hold the hands and broken hearts of the families who expected to wake their children this morning but will never be able to do so again.

If you are a survivor, we know the pain of your suffering. Please consider these Trauma Resources and read our free, online Survivors Toolkit, co-written with Giffords. Our hearts—and any help we can give—are with you.

We will keep you posted with updates and changes to our Honor With Action Tour. Thank you for your support and please remember our daughter Jessi’s message: “Every second of every day is a gift.”

With love,
Sandy & Lonnie

BUFFALO, NY • MAY 20 - 26

Support for Survivors of Tops Grocery Mass Shooting

We have been on the scene in Buffalo, responding to the racially motivated attack that devastated the community here, and took 10 lives. There is so much remaining to be done, but there are many activists and others on the ground here, we are detouring yet again to a place we've called home — we are on our way to San Antonio, where the deadliest mass school shooting in Texas shattered families this week.

Let's not forget them and their needs as the nation's attention switches to the tragedy in Uvalde.
